Community members on Maui are invited to an open house event to kick-off the master planning process for Wells Park in Wailuku.

Open house events will be held at the Wailuku Gymnasium on two separate days: the first on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m.; and the second on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The open house is hosted by the Maui Department of Parks & Recreation.  County officials say the object of the open house is to redevelop Wells Park as a place to hold community events as well as regular wellness-related programs.

Wells Park is located in the heart of Wailuku, close to homes, schools and businesses; However, park facilities and features are currently in poor condition.

“We want to fix Wells Park up but before we do we wanted to reach out to the public,” said Parks Director Kaala Bueconsejo. “The Planning and Parks departments already have some ideas but we want to hear what the community has to say. Wells Park is in the middle of everything here and we think it could become one of the best parks on Maui.”
