Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa will present his proposed 2018 Fiscal Year budget to Maui County Council members this Friday, March 24, at 9 a.m.
During his 2017 State of the County Address, Mayor Arakawa said his plans include: protecting our shorelines; recycling wastewater; promoting the collection, storage and use of more renewable energy; creating more affordable housing and reducing homelessness; expanding sustainable agriculture; improving the economy; and continuing to maintain and improve upon county infrastructure.
During his address, Mayor Arakawa said he the administration is planning to invest $4.5 million this year into developing a municipal parking facility and community events space for Wailuku. There’s also a proposal to buy 8,764 acres of land in the West Maui watershed along with its water conveyance system for $9.5 million from the Wailuku Water Company.
The mayor’s budget presentation will take place in Council Chambers, located on the 8th floor of the Kalana O Maui building at 200 South High Street in Wailuku.
As required by law, this upcoming fiscal year’s budget was developed in accordance with the Maui County Charter and the County of Maui’s budget and financial policies. This is a public event however space in council chambers is limited, as is street parking in Wailuku.
Akakū Television will cover the budget presentation live and broadcast it on channel 53.
