Carden Academy, located in Makawao, has a robust performing and fine arts program that serves students Pre-K through eighth grade. However, the school says it’s in need of dedicated spaces for fine arts classes, meetings, and performances.

The school says classes use the same space on a rotating basis and often share the space with a curtain as a divider.

The school is in the process of rebuilding a portion of their school and have received a generous $150,000 donation from the Browning Family. The new Hall will include art and music classrooms, a performance center, office space, a conference room and an outdoor lanai. The newly named Browning Hall will give students and parents the opportunity to enjoy performances, attend meetings and fully participate in classroom activities.

The school hopes to fully renovate and expand the Hall to create a fine arts environment that aligns with the school’s programming. The expansion will create an improved space for assemblies and special performances. The addition of a conference room will also enhance the school’s efficiency for board, staff, PTO and other meetings.

The total cost of the renovation is $870,000, which includes the additional classrooms, office and conference space, the outdoor lanai and a renovation of the existing Carden Hall.

As of March 22, the school has raised $479,500 and is inviting community members to help make their renovation and expansion a reality.
