New Siren Testing on Maui, May 17-19, 2017

The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, together with the Maui Emergency Management Agency will conduct siren testing at select locations on Maui between May 17-19, 2017.

The following locations, dates and times have been scheduled for inclusion in the upcoming test:

Wednesday, May 17, 2017 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Honokōwai Beach Park, Lahaina
Nāpili Park, Lahaina

Thursday, May 18, 2017 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Kilohana Park, Kīhei
Kamaʻole Park, Kīhei
Kalama Park, Kīhei
Saint Theresa, Kīhei
Mākena Waste Water Treatment Plant, Mākena

Friday, May 19, 2017 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
Makana Park, Pāʻia
Kanahā Beach Park, Kahului

These new sirens are part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project. Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified time frame. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, emergency management officials and technicians will check that installation work on these sirens has been completed properly.
