Edward Haruo Sato
March 31, 1940 – June 8, 2017
Edward Haruo Sato, 77, of Kula, passed away on June 8, 2017, at Hospice Maui Hale in Wailuku. He was born on March 31, 1940 in Pu‘unēnē, Maui.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary. Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with an urn burial to follow at 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation.
Edward was a retired school teacher and farmer. He taught 7th grade Social Studies at Makawao Elementary and Kalama Intermediate Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Helaine Sato; children, Brandon (Dena) Sato, Susan (David) Clements, Marci Sato; siblings, Lillian Yamaguchi, Richard Sato, Jane Onishi; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Family requests no flowers.
Jeanne Ann Williams
May 17, 1928 – June 4, 2017
Jeanne Ann Williams, 89, of Makawao passed away peacefully on June 4, 2017, at home with her family with support of Islands Hospice. She was born May 17, 1928, in Tulsa, OK.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary; the service will follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Islands Hospice.
She graduated from Tulsa Central High School then from Oklahoma State A&M (now Oklahoma State University) with a degree in English. Jeanne married Charles Edward Williams in 1951. Jeanne and Charles moved throughout the Midwest and West until they settled in Hawai‘i in 1970. At age 56, Jeanne started work with the State of Hawai‘i in at First Circuit Court in Honolulu then transferred to the Second Circuit Court Juvenile Probation Department on Maui where she worked until her retirement at age 66. After retirement, she lived between Texas and Maui, she volunteered at Waipuna Church, Po‘okelo Church, the Makawao Library, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Jeanne had the most beautiful handwriting and signature and later learned calligraphy. Jeanne loved poetry and books and was an excellent seamstress. Family and friends in Hawai‘i and the mainland knew her as “Tutu.”
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Charles and brother Jack Wills Jr. Jeanne is survived by her daughter Jeannette Ann Douglass (Roy), daughter Carol Jeanne Kramer (Rick) and son Charles Edward Williams Jr. (Janice); grandchildren Kepa (Kainoa), Kapena (Renee), Justin (Taryn), Brandon, Chris, and Katie; great grandchildren Makamae, Imai, Sage, Sianna, and Kyndal.
Renato Acob Bagaoisan
August 28, 1963 – June 3, 2017
Renato Acob Bagaoisan, 53, of Kahului, Maui, passed away on June 3, 2017, under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on Aug. 28, 1963, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church; mass will begin at 7 p.m.; services and burial will be held in the Philippines at a later date.
Renato was a Ground Maintenance man at King Kamehameha Golf Course. He is survived by his wife, Coney Lajorda; mother, Susima Bagaoisan; daughter, Diana Rose Lajorda; siblings, Imelda Bagaoisan, Ador Bagaoisan, Susan Bagaoisan, Eddie Bagaoisan, Roger Bagaoisan (deceased); and granddaughter, Carolina Grace Dominguez.
Betty Jean Syfers
February 20, 1926 – May 20, 2017
Betty Jean Syfers, 91, of Makawao, passed away on May 20, 2017 in Wailuku.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 3356 Kihapai Place in Pukalani, Maui.
Betty worked for the State of Hawai‘i, Human Resources Department.
She is survived by her sons, John and Steven Syfers; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Patricia “Patsy” Williams

Patricia “Patsy” Williams, age 90, born March 24, 1927, and passed away on May 27, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Adams of Pāhoa, Granddaughter Janell Adams of Pāhoa, Grandson Jerrad Adams of Issaquah WA, sister Marianne Nilsson of Sandpoint ID and sister Nancy Guttry of Sandpoint ID. Nieces: Ria Hokanson of Malahat BC CAN, Cheryl Moxley of Horseshoe Bend ID, Charmaine Mollett of Post Falls ID, Karen Garrison of Sandpoint ID, Gwen Furtney of Sandpoint, ID, Denise Welch of Westmond ID, Cathy Jaenen of Edmonton Alberta CAN, Gail Trace of Edmonton Alberta CAN. Nephews: Glen Guttry of McCall ID, Brian Blaskey of Horseshoe Bend ID, Walton Blaskey of San Jose CA, Timothy Guttry of Elko NV, Michael Shopsky of Edmonton Alberta CAN and John Shopsky of Edmonton Alberta CAN.
Patsy was born in a humble shed sized structure on a farm in Smokey Lake Alberta Canada. Life was hard and consisted of hard work with minimal possessions. Once an adult she followed her dreams and ambitions, eager to work and eager to learn. She eventually retired as Inspector for the Dept of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization (now known as Homeland Security CBP) at the US/Canada Peace Arch border in Blaine WA. During her career, she worked abroad in Moscow Russia and Rome Italy. Other careers include administrative secretary at Lockheed Aero Space in Sunnyvale, CA and Group Sales and Banquet Manager at Harvey’s Hotel and Casino, South Shore Lake Tahoe. She was an active member of the Tahoe Boat Club. Anything she tackled, she achieved through hard work, study and determination. During her retirement years, Patsy served 17 years as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, beginning in Sandpoint ID Flotilla 87, then transferring to Flotilla 19 of Hilo HI, ever studying and testing, she achieved the rank of Coxswain.
Frederick M. Garlinghouse
September 3, 1962 – May 25, 2017
Frederick M. Garlinghouse, 54, of Hilo, passed away on May 25, 2017. Frederick was born on Sept. 3, 1962, in Pasadena, CA. He was a graduate of Oregon State University and the University of the Pacific.
Frederick had a knowledge of plants and a love for nature. He was a stage manager for theatre. No Services Held. He is survived by his mother, Barbara M. Garlinghouse; brothers, James Garlinghouse and Thomas Garlinghouse.
Ulysses Eugenio “GINO” Guillermo
November 28, 1945 – May 22, 2017
Ulysses Eugenio “GINO” Guillermo, 71 of Hilo, passed on May 22, 2017 in Hilo. Gino was born on Nov. 28, 1945 in Knoxville, TN. He retired as a Flight Attendant with Hawaiian Airlines and graduated at University of Hawai’i at Hilo with a Bachelors in Economic and Bachelors of Science in Mathematics.
Services to be held at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo on June 9, 2017, visitation 5 p.m. – service 6 p.m. He is survived by his loving wife; Cynthia DC Guillermo, sons; Nogi Ernesto Ladines Carino Guillermo, Cyrus Abiley and Angelito Waimapuna (Opihi) Guillermo, daughter; Hera Flack Nohealehua Guillermo, brothers; Boyd Russell Williams, Anthony Williams, Lawrence Williams and Anthony Flack, sisters; Emeral Williams Price, Maudie Williams-Duarte, Gloria Gene Williams-Rodgers and Vanessa Quarks, eight grandchildren, Uncle; Bishop Zack S. Dolores Watts, 86, of Pāhoa, passed away on May 21, 2017. Dolores was born on July 29, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a retired security guard. She is survived by her sons; Charles B. Legg III and Paul B. Legg, daughter; Cathryn C. Legg, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
