Kukui Workshop at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, July 8
Maui Nui Botanical Gardens will host a Kukui Workshop on Saturday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to noon for attendees to learn about Hawai‘i’s official state tree.
Maui Nui Botanical Gardens says kukui has many intriguing uses; from leis and natural dyes being made to kukui nut oil being burned as fuel for torches.
Cultural practitioner Ko‘i Lum will lead the Hō‘ā i ka Lamakū at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. Participants will learn to make ‘inamona (a Hawaiian relish) and lamalama (a torch) from parts of the kukui tree.
