Mayor Arakawa:
Q: We keep hearing that the Ha‘ikū Road repairs (below Fukushima store) are nearing completion. It seems like this is taking too long. And the opening of a new subdivision entrance at Kauhikoa Road is imminent, which will only serve to exacerbate the already unsafe conditions on Kauhikoa Road.
This detour has gone on long enough! When can we expect the road work to be completed?
A: I am very pleased to let you know that the Ha‘ikū Road Culvert Improvements project is virtually complete, with a final inspection scheduled for later this week. Ha‘ikū Road may be opened as soon as Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, if no outstanding issues need to be addressed, and our Public Works team is doing their best to get it open before school starts the following week.
It was tough to make progress many weeks due to rain, because work could not be done in the drainageway when water was flowing. But the day of completion has arrived, and I would like to thank the residents for their patience with the numerous weather delays.
