The 10Best Awards contest highlights 20 nominees from around the US in various travel categories. Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY; editors from 10Best.com; and relevant expert contributors.

‘Āwili Spa and Salon was nominated by the well-traveled expert panel and then voted on by the public.

“I am incredibly proud of our spa to receive the No. 1 hotel spa award among so many well-respected resorts and hotel brands in the nation,” said Michael Jokovich, area vice president of Hawaiʻi and general manager of Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort. “It comes as no surprise because I can say with confidence that this award reflects our team’s continued dedication to deliver the best in wellness and service – from using local ingredients to offering an unforgettable experience where each guest leaves with a profound sense of relaxation and the spirit of aloha.”

‘Āwili Spa and Salon features 10 treatment rooms that include private rain showers, floor-to-ceiling ocean views as well as an adults-only tranquility pool, men’s and women’s relaxation and locker rooms complete with sauna, steam room and a heated plunge pool. The spa also features multiple ocean-facing manicure and pedicure stations and a full-service hair and blowout bar salon.

At the heart of the spa is the Apothecary Spa Lounge, which is a unique apothecary-style spin on the traditional Japanese omakase experience. As the name ’āwili means “to mix, blend and entwine” in Hawaiian, with the help of the spa’s Apothecary Consultants, guests can learn the healing properties and benefits of each oil, tincture and serum as well as fragrances and essential oils to custom blend spa products for treatments or to take home. Among the selection are locally sourced ingredients such as Kava Kava, plantain, hibiscus, sugar, coffee berry, plumeria and maitake mushroom.
