Registration Open for Native Hawaiian Convention

Registration for the 16th Annual Native Hawaiian Convention is now open.  The event, hosted by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement announced the convention will take place Oct. 9-11th, 2017 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort. Registration for the three-day event is open until Oct. 4, 2017.

The annual event brings together its members, partners, and other community leaders from across the state and the nation to share policy priorities, to connect with new programming and resources, and to feature guest speakers on topics of community development, capacity building, partnerships, and more.

This year’s theme, Aloha Lāhui or “Love for the nation,” is a tribute to the Hawaiian community’s collective contribution and passion toward progress and growth.

A highlight of the annual conference is its focus on community advocacy and policy priority development. To accomplish this, the convention hosts eight caucus sessions over the first two days, focused on gathering community leaders and partners from the following sectors: Housing, Homesteads, Small Business, Arts & Culture, Health, Education, Blue Continent, and Next Generation.

Each caucus is hosted by a CNHA member or partner and all are welcome to join the discussion and solution-building process. Ultimately, each group presents their top three priorities, policy or program focused, to the entire audience of the Policy Roundtable on the final day of convention, October 11.

“This is a great opportunity for attendees to get a pulse on what each sector in our community is focused on and how partnerships and resources might be helpful to accomplish the goals for the coming year,” shares Michelle Kauhane, President & CEO of CNHA.

Other notable highlights for this year’s convention include the Pacific Island Philanthropy Forum, hosted over Tuesday and Wednesday, which will feature resources from national foundations, information valuable to organizations in attendance relative to grants and other funding. This portion of convention is focused on capacity building and resource outreach to assist nonprofit leaders and staff in growing a fundable program or partnership in Hawaii and/or the Pacific region.

For those who are interested in economic development, Tuesday will feature a Small Business and Entrepreneur Fair, by DBEDT, with over 30 resources for up-and-coming small businesses.
