Former Maui Corrections Officer Convicted, Sentencing Set

A former Maui Community Correctional Center state corrections officer was found guilty of second degree sex assault and two counts of third degree sex assault against a female inmate following a jury trial in July.

On Tuesday, the court ordered that sentencing for James Siugpiyemal take place on Oct. 3, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.

Siugpiyemal was accused of forcing the female to engage in sex during an incident in 2014.

He was arrested in 2016 after fleeing to the Island of Yap and was extradited back to the US.
