Applications Available for 13th Annual Chili Cook-Off

The 13th Annual Maui Fire Department Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 starting at 3 p.m. in the Entertainment Tent at the 95th Maui Fair.

The fundraiser benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children, Patient Transportation Fund which enables children afflicted with injuries related to fires to receive the necessary medical treatment and rehabilitation therapy on their road to recovery.

This year’s Cook-off will feature an Open Category, open to the first 20 non-professional registered entries. There will be a registration fee. Participants will bring in their favorite chili dish for firefighters to judge. Recipes are not limited to traditional ingredients. The winner will receive $250 in cash.

Registration form and rules and regulations can be can be found and submitted at www.mauifair.com. Entry numbers and gate passes can be picked up at the Fair Office once participants are approved as entrants. The deadline to enter is Sept. 27, 2017.

The Maui Fair Office in the War Memorial Gymnasium Parking Lot is open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Call (808) 242-2721 before visiting.

The Maui Fair features an array of local food, entertainment, EK Fernandez Joy Zone, plus horticulture, orchid, livestock, homemaking, photo and art exhibits and competitions. Unique and innovative products and services will be available in the “Maui Fair Products & Services” Tent and the Events Arena will showcase community groups, clubs and organizations as they perform and share their knowledge and skill. Some other friendly competitions will also make a return in 2017, including the Maui Fair Pie Competition, and Baby of the Year Contest.
