All Temporarily Suspended Maui School Bus Routes RestoredSeptember 11, 2017, 3:52 PM HST · Updated September 11, 3:54 PM 0 Comments
The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education reports that all previously suspended bus routes on Maui have been restored to service.
With the restoration of these final two routes, serving Baldwin High and ʻĪao Intermediate, all schools on all islands are receiving bus service as of today.
Qualified school bus drivers are still being sought by contractors, who will now focus on restoring consolidated routes to normal schedules.
The DOE has been trying to address a shortage of Commercial Driver Licensed drivers on Maui and Kauaʻi qualified to operate school buses.
For a limited time, school bus contractors are offering hiring bonuses and increased wages. Interested CDL drivers should contact the Student Transportation Services Branch at (808) 586-0170 as soon as possible. Interested drivers without a CDL are also being sought. The CDL training and testing process is open and takes approximately three weeks to complete.
For questions about school bus registration, route or service concerns statewide, the public can contact the Get On Board Hotline at (808) 586-0161.
