An estimated 62,500 gallons of wastewater overflowed off of Kahului Beach Road in Wailuku this morning.

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management reported that the wastewater overflow occurred at around 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2017, and was stopped by 10:45 a.m.

County officials say the overflow was caused by an electrical failure. The wastewater flowed over a dirt access road and into the ocean.
