Sierra Club Endorses Tulsi Gabbard for Congress
The Sierra Club has announced its continued support for Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) in her campaign for re-election.
Organization leaders say Gabbard again earned the endorsement of the Sierra Club’s National Political Team and Sierra Club’s Hawaiʻi Chapter “because of her strong commitment and record of fighting to protect our environment and promoting policies that further clean energy, address climate change, and protect the natural and cultural resources on which Hawaiʻi depends.”
Dr. Jonathan Likeke Scheuer, Political Committee Chair of the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi, said, “The Sierra Club is pleased to again endorse Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for her re-election to Congress. She has been a reliable voice and vote for the environment, even in the face of an administration hostile to environmental protection. We look forward to ever greater leadership from her on clean energy, climate change, freshwater, and the protection of the natural and cultural resources on which Hawaiʻi depends.”
Rep. Gabbard responded to the news saying, “I am grateful for the continued support of the Sierra Club and its members, and for the work that they do every day in Hawaiʻi and across the country to protect our environment. There are many threats to our environment posed by those who are motivated by greed rather than need, negatively impacting current and future generations. We must remain vigilant in our care for Mother Earth, and protect the limited natural resources available to us. Together, as stewards of the environment, we will continue to work together to protect our water, air, and ‘āina.”
The Sierra Club of Hawai‘i is one of the oldest grassroots environmental organizations in the islands. Founded in 1968, they currently have more than 16,000 members and supporters volunteering to help people better explore, enjoy, and protect Hawai‘i’s unique environment and wildlife. Nationally, the Sierra Club community includes more than 3 million members and volunteers.
