Crews Battle Evening Fire in Upper Kanaio
Overnight, Maui firefighters were called to reports of a brushfire on in the area of upper Kanaio.
The report was received at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018.
Once on scene, crews confirmed an active brushfire in rough terrain that made it difficult to access and determine it’s size, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.
As of 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, approximately two acres of heavy brush has burned and is nearly contained.
There are structures in the area, but no threats to them at this time, according to FSC Yatsushiro.
The Maui Fire Department has two engines, two tankers and the department Air 1 helicopter working on extinguishment.
There are no injuries to report and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
