New York Man Dies of Injuries Sustained in Weekend Crash on Maui
A New York man has since died after suffering injuries in a motor vehicle accident reported on Saturday night in Nāpili.
The single-vehicle collision was reported at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 on the Honoapiʻilani Road near Omaikai Place in Nāpili.
The vehicle was traveling northbound on Lower Honoapiʻilani Road when it veered right and collided head on into a bridge just south of Omaikai Place.
The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified as Frank Mobus, a 65-year-old man from New York. While being checked by first responders he became unresponsive. Mobus was stabilized and transported to the Maui Medical Center. Mobus was transported to the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu where he later died of his injuries.
The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still on-going.
This is Maui County’s 7th fatality this year, as compared to 4 at the same time last year.
