11th Annual Habitat Maui Build-a-Thon in Lahaina
Habitat for Humanity Maui will hold its 11th annual Build-a-Thon fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be working in the Kahoma Residential Subdivision in Lahaina, where Habitat Maui is building 10 single family homes.
The Build-a-Thon is a public awareness and fundraising event, where Habitat supporters raise money and help build homes for people in low income households.
The event is expected to mobilize over 100 volunteers and make significant construction progress on several homes Habitat is building.
A suggested personal goal of raising $100 in pledges or donations is recommended for participants. All money raised will go towards building these 10 homes.Lunches, snacks, and door prizes will be provided.
“While the need for truly affordable housing options is extreme in all parts of Maui, it is especially acute in Lahaina,” according to the organization. The Realtors Association of Maui’s June 2018 report whos that the median sales price for a single family home in Lahaina was $989,000.
In a November 2015 report by the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, data shows that between January 2008 and October 2015, only 27% of home buyers in West Maui were local residents. That’s the lowest percentage of local buyers in the state.
