Maui police arrested a man accused of stealing a vehicle from an acquaintance on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 at around 11 p.m.

Reynald Gonzales was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Motor Vehicle and second degree robbery.  Police say they located Gonzales and the vehicle at around 5 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Baldwin Beach Park.

The charges stem from an incident at Baldwin Beach Park in which the male victim reports that he observed Gonzales allegedly rummaging through his backpack and stealing the keys to his rental vehicle. The victim told police that he attempted to stop Gonzales, but that the suspect allegedly bit the victim’s right forearm before driving off toward Hāna Highway.
