Ask the Mayor: Who’s Responsible for Parking Enforcement?
Mayor Alan Arakawa answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his office staff.
Mr. Mayor,
Q: Aloha. In the Central Maui Sports Complex the last couple of weekends, there has been a flag football league using the facility. There are dozens of cars parked on the grass in the park, despite NO Parking on grass signs posted every few feet.(13.04A.070 – General prohibitions applicable to all parks and recreation facilities.) Who is supposed to be enforcing this, and why are they not?
A: Thank you for your question. Our Department of Parks & Recreation is looking into this complaint and has contacted the permit holder involved. If there is a violation, the permit for this activity will be revoked.
