Flood WARNING for Maui Until 7:45 p.m.

MAUI FLOOD WARNING UNTIL 7:45 P.M. (Update: 5:27 p.m., 4:42 p.m. 9.27.18)

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the island of Maui until 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.

At 5:21 p.m., radar showed heavy rain continuing over the slopes of Haleakalā. The highest rates were about one inch per hour within a band from Haʻikū to Keōkea. A stream gauge on Honopou Stream near Huelo indicated high water levels. Earlier heavy rain near Hāna has eased but runoff levels are likely still high.

At 4:38 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain continuing over the slopes of Haleakalā. Rain rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were detected over the Haʻikū and Hāna areas. Low spots along Waikoloa Road and ʻUlaino Road near Hāna may become impassable. Heavy rain southwest of Kīhei may also move onshore and cause urban flooding from Māʻalaea to Wailea.

Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Kahului, Hāliʻimaile, Waikapū, Pāʻia, Makawao, Wailuku, Keōkea, Waiehu, Haʻikū-Paʻuwela and Wailea.

There’s also a Flood Advisory in effect for the island of Molokaʻi until 6:45 p.m. At 3:39 p.m., radar showed heavy rain has moved over Molokaʻi from the southwest. The highest rates were about one inch per hour over the west half of the island. This rainfall is expected to continue through the rest of the afternoon and may spread into the east half of the island. This advisory includes the entire island of Molokaʻi.

MAUI FLOOD ADVISORY UNTIL 6:30 P.M.; MOLOKAI FLOOD ADVISORY UNTIL 6:45 P.M.:(Update: 3:43 p.m. 9.27.18)

A flood advisory has been extended for the island of Maui until 6:30 p.m.

At 3:34 p.m., radar showed heavy rainfall continuing over the slopes of Haleakalā.

Another area of heavy rainfall is moving over Maui from the south from Wailea to Kāʻanapali.

Peak rain rates are about one inch per hour. This rainfall is expected to continue through around sunset. This advisory includes the entire island of Maui.

Flood Advisory Until 5:30 p.m. (Updated at 2:40 p.m.)

A flood advisory has been issued for the island of Maui until 5:30 p.m.

At 2:36 p.m. HST, radar showed heavy rain over the slopes of Haleakalā. The highest rain rates were about one inch per hour over the Upcountry region from Hāliʻimaile to Kula. This rainfall is expected to diminish by sunset.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Pāʻia, Makawao, Keōkea, Haʻikū-Paʻuwela, Keʻanae, Huelo and ʻUlupalakua.

As of 2:08 p.m., a contra-flow remained in effect on the Honoapiʻilani due to continued flooding in the Olowalu area near the paintball field. Roadway updates can be found at the following LINK.

FLOOD WARNING CANCELLED

The Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui has been cancelled as of 11:57 a.m., however runoff levels remain elevated in some areas. Emergency Managers say impacts from the rain can still be felt. Motorists are advised to stay off of roads in flooded areas.

FLOOD WARNING FOR MAUI COUNTY UNTIL 12:15 P.M. 9.27.18

As of 11:22 a.m., traffic on the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Lahaina is being contra-flowed between Olowalu and the intersection with Kai Hele Kū due to flooding over the roadway. Traffic is slow-moving as a result. (See video below//Click here for highway updates).

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Maui County until 12:15 p.m. HST.

At 9:18 a.m. HST, emergency management reported flash flooding on Front Street in Lahaina. Ponding was beginning to affect some of the businesses there. Radar indicated very heavy thundershowers will continue across west Maui for the next hour or two, with rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour expected to continue in the heaviest downpours.

Flood Advisory for Maui Until 11:30 a.m.

There is a Flood Advisory in effect for the island of Maui until 11:30 a.m. HST on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.

At 8:33 a.m., radar showed a slow moving line of very heavy thundershowers extending from the eastern tip of Molokaʻi, across the ʻAuʻau Channel. This line is moving ashore over west Maui with rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour detected in the heaviest downpours. The National Weather Service says this will lead to ponding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Kapalua, Honokōhau, Māʻalaea, Kahakuloa, Waiheʻe, Waikapū, Kāʻanapali, Lahaina, Wailuku, Nāpili-Honokōwai, Waiehu and Olowalu.

Flood Advisory for Molokai Until 10:45 a.m.

A Flood Advisory has been issued for the island of Molokaʻi in Maui County until 10:45 a.m.

At 7:42 a.m., radar showed slow moving downpours near Kamalō with rainfall rates reaching 2-3 inches per hour.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say these heavy showers may continue to affect portions of East Molokaʻi over the next couple of hours.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Kawela, Kalaupapa National Park, Pūkoʻo, ʻUalapuʻe, Hālawa Valley, Kamalō and Kualapuʻu.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot. The NWS advises, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
