Several Injured in South Maui Outrigger Canoe Accident

An accident occurred at the Maui Canoe Club this morning, Oct. 22, 2018, at approximately 8 a.m. as a double-hulled canoe approached shore.

A bystander said the canoe split in half. There were multiple injuries and paramedics were called.

Maui County Fire Department Fire Service Chief Rylan Yatsushiro told Maui Now that three paddlers sustained minor injuries and a woman in her 70’s was transported by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center withe more severe injuries.

Surf at the time of the incident was reported at 4 feet.
