Maui police arrested and charged a Lahaina man with first degree terroristic threatening for an incident reported in Central Maui on Sunday afternoon.

Maui police say two people were in a vehicle traveling toward Kahului on the Honoapiʻilani Highway when they saw a Chevy Tahoe being operated erratically in front of them.

The incident was reported on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 at about 1 p.m.

According to police reports, the vehicles approached the intersection of Kūihelani Highway and Puʻunēnē Avenue when the driver of the Tahoe allegedly pointed what appeared to be a rifle out the window. Police later located the Tahoe in the parking lot of the Kahului Safeway and say it was being operated by a male with a female passenger and seven juveniles in the back. Maui Police Lieutenant Gregg Okamoto said an airsoft rifle was found in the vehicle.
