Juvenile Arrested, Released for Suspected Arson in Kīhei
A juvenile was arrested by police at the scene of a brush fire in Kīhei on Sunday afternoon, on suspicion of arson, fire officials said. The individual was later released to the custody of parents, according to department reports.
Maui firefighters were called to the scene of the brush fire at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2019 at the South Maui Community Park on Līloa Drive.
Two engines and two tankers responded to the incident.
Once on scene, crews found a fire approximately three-fourths of an acre involving light dry brush, said Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.
Crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish this fire, according to MFS Yatsushiro.
There are no injuries or damages to report.
