A Maui man was arrested and charged after he allegedly threw a large rock through the driver’s window of a passing motorist in Kīhei, police said.

The incident was reported at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at the Piʻikea Avenue/Līloa Drive roundabout.

Police say a female visitor from Michigan was driving her rental car up Piʻikea Avenue.  As she entered and drove through the roundabout on Līloa Drive, police say an unknown male who was standing on the median, allegedly threw a large rock through the driver’s window.

Maui Police Lieutenant Gregg Okamoto said the rock allegedly struck the female and caused minor injuries.

Police have since identified the man as 33-year-old Daniel Fuataimi of Kīhei.

He was arrested and charged for the following offenses: second degree assault, first degree criminal property and second degree reckless endangering and an unrelated arrest warrant.

Fuataimi was being held in lieu of $5,450 bail at last report.
