$50K Distributed to Families Affected by Lahaina Fires

Maui United Way in partnership with the Lahaina Strong Benefit Concert distributed a total of ten $5,000 Lowe’s gift certificates to families affected by the Lahiana fires due to Hurricane Lane.

    A public distribution event was held last night at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in Kahului, which also kicked in an added savings of 10% off purchases made with the funds.

    The funds were raised during the Lahiana Strong Benefit Concert, held on Oct. 21, 2018.

    Kari Luna Nunokawa, President and Chief Professional Officer at Maui United Way said, “Maui United Way is so blessed to have been part of an event that truly united our community to support our friends, family, and neighbors who lost their homes in fires brought about by Hurricane Lane. When we come together to support each other, that’s when our community can move forward and be stronger.”

    Nunokawa thanked the multiple families that organized the benefit concert saying, “Mahalo nui to nā ʻohana Blackburn, Kuehu, Lawrence, Tevaga, Smythe, Saribay, Buenconsejo, Ugale, Kahaialiʻi, and Sparks for putting the concert together and showing what it means to Live Aloha and Live United.”
