Maui police say the first and most important question in every 9-1-1 call is, “What is the location of your emergency?” This is the first step to dispatching emergency responders as seconds saves lives in an emergency, according to Maui Police.

Through the NG911 Clearinghouse, the Maui Police Department is now able to receive fast and accurate location data during calls placed from an iPhone with iOS 12.  Police say this capability is now integrated into the Maui Police Department’s existing 9-1-1 computer-aided-dispatch and mapping software, providing invaluable information seamlessly and immediately to the call-taker.

The Maui Police Department is always seeking to implement new technology that will improve emergency response, department officials said.  “With fast and accurate location data, the Maui Police Department is hoping the new software will make a positive impact during emergencies,” according to the announcement.

Maui Police Chief Tivoli Faaumu said, “The Maui Police Department is proud to be at the forefront of 9-1-1 technology and always strives to provide the best possible service to it’s community.”
