455 Maui Customers Without Power: Ha‘ikū, Olinda, Pi‘iholo and ‘Īao

Maui Electric crews are continuing restoration efforts in parts of Upcountry including Haʻikū, Olinda and Piʿiholo this morning to bring approximately 455 customers back online. Customers in ʻĪao Valley are also experiencing a power outage after a large tree came down on power lines.

Additional damage assessments and repairs are being made to electrical equipment brought down by storm impacts yesterday. Maui Electric is working with the County of Maui to clear trees and debris that are blocking roadways and restricting access.

“Our focus today is to take care of our remaining customers without power in these pockets of the island,” said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui County and Hawai’i Island Utilities. “In many of these cases, crews are working to repair downed lines and poles brought down by the high winds and fallen trees.”

Approximately 30,500 customers across various parts of Maui County experienced power interruptions ranging from momentary outages to sustained outages yesterday due to strong winds bringing down trees, power lines, and utility poles. A majority of the them were restored by midnight last night.

“Thank you again to our customers for their patience as we continue to make repairs to the system,” said Suzuki. “We also appreciate the support from the Maui Fire Department and Maui Police Department who have been helping to keep our community safe during this power restoration process.”
