The Maui Hui Malama Board of Directors appointed Chelsie Haunga Evans as their new executive director. Evans, who was born and raised here on Maui, recently returned home after working for various nonprofit organizations statewide and nationally. Evans also served as the director of the Youth Services Center in Wailuku in 2005.

“I am honored and thankful for this opportunity. Pualani Enos believed in me early in my career and taught me a lot about strong leadership paired with humility,” Evans said. “I am excited to be back home here at Maui Hui Malama and am honored with the chance to build and expand the work pioneered by those who came before me.”

Evans has been back with Maui Hui Malama since last December as their director of programs and operations, learning about grants, data management, and other agency operations. While in this position, she has worked closely with the agencyʻs staff and volunteers to gain a better understanding of the diverse needs of the community.

“She (Evans) has proven herself in her short time here and her vision for Hui Malama aligns with our strategic plan,” board president Vince Baldemor said. “Chelsie has big shoes to fill in following Pua’s leadership and accomplishments and we are confident that she will do a great job.”
