Baldwin, Ho‘okipa Beach Parks Remain Closed Due to Flooding, Surf

All beach parks have been assessed and are open Monday, except Baldwin and Hoʻokipa beach parks, according to an announcement this morning from the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The access road and pavilion to Baldwin are flooded and Ocean Safety officers determined water conditions require Hoʻokipa to remain closed.

The department thanks members of the public for their cooperation and apologizes for the inconvenience.

The National Weather Service has continued the high surf warning for the north facing shores of Maui and north and west facing shores of Molokaʻi until 6 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019.

Surf of 25 to 40 feet this morning will lower to 18 to 24 feet by tonight. Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.

Large surf, strong winds and high tides combined to create the dangerous and hazardous conditions.
