In celebration of National Park Week, admission to the Haleakalā National Park will be free for the public on Saturday, April 20. That Saturday is also National Junior Ranger Day, which will be celebrated with a special Volunteer-in-Parks program. Kids, along with family and friends, can sign up for a volunteer ʻōpala, or trash, pick up from 9 a.m. to noon in the Summit District and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kīpahulu District.
Participants will receive a Junior Ranger badge and a certificate. Gloves, trash bags, and reflective vests will be provided upon check-in. The ʻōpala pick up will end with a group Junior Ranger graduation ceremony at the Summit Headquarters and Kīpahulu Visitor Centers.
