Queen Kaʻahumanu Center announces their collaboration with Hui No Ke Ola Pono and Blue Zones Project in support of the Heart and Sole Walking Club.  The club started its walking event on April 2, 2019, and will gather every Tuesday and Thursday anytime between 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Walking Club has been a signature event of QKC since April 2016 and as of the second quarter of 2019, both Hui No Ke Ola Pono and Blue Zones Project are co-sponsors.

“We are so very excited to have Hui No Ke Ola Pono and Blue Zones Project join us in this great community health initiative,” said Toni Rojas, Vice President of Business and Community Development. “All three of us are truly committed to improving health and enhancing the lives of our Maui residents. Let’s build a healthier community, together,” said Rojas.

Hui No Ke Ola Pono is a private 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health status of Native Hawaiians by empowering the present and future generation to be their own health advisors and although focused on the Native Hawaiian community, does not turn anyone away.

Blue Zones Project is a community well-being improvement initiative designed to change the way people experience the world around them and make healthy choices easier.

In just three short years, the number of walking registrants increased over 400%, with over 200 walkers ranging in age from 18 to 94 years of age. As a centrally located, and semi-covered venue, the event takes place every Tuesday and Thursday and walkers may walk any time from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Walking Club does not meet on July 4 (Independence Day), November 28 (Thanksgiving Day), December 24 and 26 (Christmas Eve and Day after Christmas) in 2019.

The public may register on any Tuesday or Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the QKC Center Court. However, it is recommended to register early in each quarter. Free registration includes a Blue Zones Project t-shirt (one annually) and eligibility to win door prizes. Quarterly grand prizes will be awarded to the highest number of laps in age ranges of 18 to 35 years, 36 to 59 years, 61 to 79 years and 80 plus years. A Walking Spirit Award will also be announced each quarter to the Walker that exemplifies enthusiasm, commitment and aloha spirit.
