Pukalani School Wins Overall Title at Maui Math Challenge

Seabury Hall hosted the 2019 Maui Math Challenge for elementary students on April 13, 2019 at the school’s upcountry campus.

A total of 76 students from nine different public and private schools from Maui participated.

Pukalani School won top honors and took home the Team Award Perpetual Trophy.


The Seabury Hall Maui Math Challenge was founded in 2013 by Seabury Hall alumni Jesse Doan. Doan is now a student at Stanford University. Jacqueline Neal, Seabury Hall Middle School Head, commented on how wonderful it was to see kids out on a Saturday morning excited to do math.

Overall Team: 1st Place – Pukalani Elementary School (Kayden Volner, Wesley Kosaka, Carson Rosenthal, Kayla Souza) 2nd Place – Waihee Elementary School (Sofia Kloft-Hibbard, Alyza Sitts-Leyva, Shiloh Durant, James Ancheta) 3rd Place – Pomaikai Elementary School (Kaiden Yoshikawa, Caylev Obrero, Aleize Angel, Jaxson Giesea)

Individual Written Round Overall and Grade 5 – 1st Place – William Kayes, Emmanuel Lutheran School, 2nd Place – Sofia Kloft-Hibbard, Waihee Elementary School, 3rd Place – Alyza Setts-Levya, Waihee Elementary School


Individual Written Round Grade 4 – 1st Place – Wesley Kosaka, Pukalani Elementary School, 2nd Place – Jeffrey Ho, Pukalani Elementary School, 3rd Place – Ken Ohira, Wailuku Elementary School

Individual Written Round Grade 3 – 1st Place – Orion Brandon, Kula Elementary School, 2nd Place – Nikki Kayes, Emmanuel Lutheran School, 3rd Place – Jaxson Giesea, Pomaikai Elementary School
