Pain Management with Medical Cannabis, May 18
Medical cannabis researcher and author, Michael Backes returns to Maui for another Lunch & Learn presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Leis Family Class Act Restaurant, on the second floor of the Pāʻina Building at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College campus in Kahului.
Organizers say Backes will share the latest research on cannabinoids and pain management and how medical cannabis is helping patients to reduce dependence on prescription opiates.
A $20 registration fee includes a hot lunch buffet and class materials.
In 2017, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine reviewed more than 10,000 scientific abstracts to reach its nearly 100 conclusions, including evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults. Backes will explain how and why cannabis helps to manage pain.
Michael Backes is the author of Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana, an inside look at the most effective varieties of cannabis for specific conditions. He currently serves as Curriculum and Training advisor for Maui Grown Therapies in Kahului and is a member of their Science and Medical Advisory Board.
