40th Annual “Nā Holo Wahine” Women’s 5K, May 12
The Valley Isle Road Runners, a non-profit running club on Maui, hosts the 40th Annual Women’s 5K run “Nā Holo Wahine” and 1-mile walk on Mothers Day, Sunday May 12, 2019 at 7 a.m.
This year’s event will be held at a brand new location–the University of Hawaiʻi Maui Campus in Kahului.
“We are excited about our new location,” said Joy Tamayose, Secretary of Valley Isle Road Runners. “The past course included running on sidewalks and roads and now the course is contained within the grounds of the UHMC Campus,” she said.
For the third consecutive year, this event will support The Maui Farm, a local non-profit organization that empowers families and cultivates lives.
“The Maui Farm cannot be successful in our work without the support of our community, and we greatly appreciate that Valley Isle Road Runners has once again chosen to partner with us again this year on the Nā Holo Wahine race,” said Executive Director, Stacey Moniz.
Proceeds from this event will be used to support the organization’s Family Strengthening Program, providing transitional housing and life skills training for Maui families who have been displaced due to domestic violence and economic challenges, and offering support towards self-sufficiency.
Categories for this year’s event include a 5K women’s race, a 1-mile walk and a Mother-Daughter team option. Cost is between $20 and $35 depending on category, and there is a discount for Valley Isle Road Runners members.
“If you don’t run, come out and walk and enjoy Mother’s Day morning,” said Tamayose.
After race food is provide courtesy of Nalu’s in Kīhei. Refreshments, awards and prize giveaways donated from local Maui businesses will be available at the awards ceremony immediately after the race.
