6-Year-Old Girl Rescued from Large Surf at Kaupō, Maui

A six-year-old girl was transported to the hospital by ambulance after suffering injuries in large surf on Sunday morning, May 12, 2019.
The incident was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. in Kaupō.
Fire officials say the child was swimming when she got rolled around in the surf, hitting her head. She was grabbed from the ocean by a family member.
Responding crews from the Kula Fire Station found the child to be alert and oriented, but carried her to the roadway to an awaiting ambulance while taking spinal precautions.
