Kiawe Outdoor presents a unique culinary experience on Sunday, June 30 in Mākena, as part of its Chef Collaboration Series.  The event is called Pūlehu, featuring Chef Sheldon Simeon of Lineage in Wailea and Tin Roof in Kahului.

The business was born from the desire to return to the rich tradition of real Hawaiian cooking: outdoor, with fire. Kiawe Outdoor focuses on local food sources paired with top wines and craft beverages, designed for each event. Since the company sources food locally, using invasive species such as Axis Deer cooked over wild Kiawe wood, every event is different.

The menu for Sunday’s event includes smoked oysters, venison musubi, tomahawk ribeye, fresh Ono, lychee dutch oven cake and much more.

Here’s how he describes the event with Sheldon Simeon on the Kiawe Outdoor website:

“Take part of a whimsical experience and a journey into the mind of one of the most imaginative chefs of our time. Let us tell you the story of a chef that knows no limits and experience for yourself the flavors of an often-forgotten era; plantation-inspired cuisine taken back to its roots over open flame.”

The event happens from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; tickets are $200 per person, or $250 for VIP Early Access.

It’s happening near the 3rd entrance to Mākena State Park (Big Beach), directly across from 6900 Mākena Road in a kiawe grove. Parking is in the back of the property. Learn more and book your tickets here.
