Second Death at Twin Falls
A 38-year-old Kula man became the second fatal victim at Twin Falls in less than a week.
The Department of Fire & Public Safety said on Monday at around 11:17 a.m. the victim jumped over the falls into one of the lower pools and hit his head on the way down. Fire rescue crews found him lying on the water’s edge while medically trained bystanders gave him CPR.
The patient was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Last Thursday a 47-year old California man died after falling off a 10 foot embankment at Twin Falls.
In an unrelated incident in May, a 44-year-old Hana man died after jumping off the bridge in Kipahulu into a freshwater pool.
Although jumping into freshwater ponds is a popular activity on Maui, rescue officials warn against it.
“The Maui Fire Department wants to strongly urge the public to never dive or jump into ponds due to submerged rocks, ledges and other hazards not easily visible,” said Maui Fire Captain Rylan Yatsushiro.
