Blood Bank Comes Back to Maui
The Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi is back on Maui and urging residents to make donations.
The organization will be holding blood drives at the Cameron Center from Aug. 19 to 23 as a part of its ‘Tough Enough’ challenge.
In June, 398 Maui residents donated blood to the bank.
According to the organization, blood donations drop by more than 15 percent every summer because students are out of school and families go on vacation.
“Blood Bank of Hawai’i depends on 200 volunteer donors a day to provide lifesaving blood to Hawaii’s 18 hospitals,” the organization wrote in a press release.
“A single car accident can require up to 50 units of blood. Blood donations are also used daily for surgeries, trauma victims, delivering mothers, cancer treatments, transplants, and other life-saving procedures.”

Drives are subject to change.
Below is a list of donor requirements:
- Be in good health
- Be 18 years of age or older (16 to 17-year-old donors need a signed Blood Bank of Hawai’i parent/legal guardian consent)
- Weigh 110 pounds or more (Additional height/weight requirements apply for female donors 16 to 18 years old)
- Bring a photo ID with date of birth
Walk-ins are welcome, but the bank encourages scheduling an appointment to save time.
