Unresponsive Visitor Dies at Honolua Bay, Maui

Rescue crews were unable to revive an unresponsive swimmer on board a moored catamaran at Honolua Bay on Thursday morning.

The incident was reported at 10:58 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019. Maui fire officials have since identified the victim as a male visitor, approximately 65 years of age.

The department’s Engine 11 and Jet Ski 11 responded to the scene.

Ocean safety personnel aboard the Jet Ski 11 responded to Honolua Bay and put a lifeguard on the catamaran to provide basic life support. The victim was then brought to shore by the Jet Ski.

Once on shore, Medics and Fire personnel continued CPR. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to fire officials.
