Labor Day Impaired Driving Enforcement Nets Six DUI Arrests
Maui police arrested six individuals for operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant during an increased enforcement effort targeting impaired driving over the Labor Day weekend.
Police also made 13 arrests for other offenses and issued 26 citations for moving violations.
A total of 780 vehicles were screened at seven roadblocks set up by officers with the Maui Police Department, Traffic Division.
“Over the Labor Day weekend the message to the public was clear and the results showed the public heard the message,” said Lt. William Hankins, MPD Traffic Commander.
He said there weren’t “that many Impaired Driving arrests, but that just goes to show people were driving more responsibly.”
Police thanked those who were in compliance for helping to keep Maui’s roadways safe.
“That being said we will continue our impaired driving checkpoints, and saturation patrols. We will never stop hunting down and arresting those who drive impaired,” said Lt. Hankins.
