The County of Maui Planning Department will be hosting the annual Hawaiʻi Congress of Planning Officials from Sept. 11 to 13.

HCPO is an annual meeting of planning officials and commissioners involved in managing land use and development throughout Hawaiʻi.

Since the conference is organized entirely by planning department staff, the department is advising the public that there may not be personnel available at the Wailuku office to answer phone calls or respond to walk-in questions during the conference.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding over these three days,” planning director Michele McLean said in a press release.

“The counties and the state take turns hosting HCPO, so it is our turn every five years and we work hard to make Maui County proud. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these staffing demands.”
