Massachusetts Man Pulled Unresponsive from Wailea Waters

A 69-year-old man from Massachusetts was pulled unresponsive from South Maui waters on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2019.

The incident was reported at 10:57 a.m. in the ocean fronting the Grand Wailea Resort.

Fire officials say the man was found approximately 30 feet from shore.

Bystanders performed CPR on the man until firefighters and medics arrived and took over patient care.

“Despite all efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at scene,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.

Crews responding to the scene included Engine 14 and Ladder 14 out of Wailea.
