Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority Awards Aloha ʻĀina Funding 

Several conservation projects on Maui and Moloka’i are receiving grants for their efforts to protect and manage natural resources. 

In addition to the 11 programs in Maui County, The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority announced today it is allocating funds to 23 other community-based nonprofits and government programs throughout the islands under its Aloha ‘Āina program. 

“Our Aloha ‘Āina program is focused on the lasting value of stewardship by responsible community-based entities with an emphasis on ‘āina-kanaka (land-human) relationships and knowledge,” HTA Director of Hawaiian Cultural Affairs Kalani Kaʻananā said. 

“The collective objective is to reinvest tourism dollars to manage, conserve, and revitalize Hawai‘i’s natural resources.” 

The funding comes from tourism dollars through the Transient Accommodations Tax, which visitors pay when they stay in legal accommodations throughout the state.
