Maui Crime Stoppers Looking for Arsonist(s) Who Set Vehicles Ablaze Sunday
Maui Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects who set a number of abandoned vehicles on fire Sunday.
According to Maui police two of the vehicles set on fire were abandoned and two others were owned by a business. One vehicle was reported stolen.
The first vehicle fire was reported at 5:51 a.m. along Piʻilani Highway, mile marker #17 in Kanaio. Police described the vehicle only as “old” and “abandoned.”
The second vehicle fire was reported at 6:07 a.m. on the shoulder of Hāna Highway near mile marker #9 at Hoʻokipa Park. Police describe this vehicle as also abandoned.
The third and fourth vehicles fires were set at 9 p.m. at 365 Lehuakona Street. Police said these vehicles were two old out-of-service Maui Linen box trucks.
The fifth vehicle fire was reported at 9:43 p.m. in the reservoir area off Waiʻale Road across from Waikapū Gardens. Police said this vehicle was stolen prior from an upcountry address.
