Sounds of African Fusion to Take Center Stage at the MACC
Okaidja Afroso, a singer, guitarist, percussionist, and dancer from Ghana, will make his Maui debut this month.
Born into a family of musicians and storytellers in the village of Kokrobite, Afroso says his music pursues a universal harmony.
“My music preserves my West African roots while embracing diverse cross-cultural influences and styles,” Afroso explained in a press release.
“I strive to create a rhythmic fusion of old and new that presents a fresh sound that preserves the authenticity of the traditional while embracing the rich complexity of the integrated world we inhabit today.”
Afrosoʻs four albums recount his journey to becoming the songwriter and collaborator he is today.
The concert will be held on Oct. 25 in the Castle Theater at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. A dance floor will be included.
