Jollibee, a popular fast-food chain in the Philippines, will be opening a restaurant at the Maui Marketplace in Kahului.

Honeybee Foods Corporation dba Jollibee started posting job openings on Maui about seven months ago seeking a restaurant supervisor for its Kahului location. The job listing indicated the location of the eatery would be 270 Dairy Road #270, the site of the old Bank of Hawaiʻi branch.

According to county records, Jollibee was granted a building permit on June 5, 2019, to construct a restaurant at the old bank site.

According to the Jollibee website, there are currently 37 stores in the US and 1,300 stores across the globe.  The chain’s first US location opened more than 20 years ago in Daly City, California, in 1998.  Today, there’s locations in California, Florida, Hawaiʻi, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington and Virginia.

The Jollibee website states that the company is best known for its “Chickenjoy,” which is delicately hand-breaded to be crispy on the outside, with a secret marinade on the inside. Other favorites are the restaurant’s sweet-style Jolly Spaghetti and Peach Mango Pie.
