Public Meetings to Discuss Rules for Shoreline Development

The Department of Planning will be holding a series of meetings on proposed special management area and shoreline rule amendments that could affect beachfront properties.

According to the department, the amendments are intended to streamline the permitting process in an effort to protect new development from the impacts of rising sea levels.

All of the meetings will be open to the public and are scheduled for 5 p.m.

Here is a list of the meetings:

  • Nov. 14: Kīhei Community Center
  • Nov. 20: Kalana Pakui Building
  • Dec. 4: Kaunoa Senior Center
  • Dec. 11: Lahaina Civic Center

The Maui Planning Commission will review the proposed rules in 2020 before they are adopted.
