Seven Displaced by Structure Fire at Holowai Place Home in Wailuku

Seven people were displaced by a structure fire at a home in the Happy Valley neighborhood of Maui on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 3:42 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 on Holowai Place in Wailuku.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the fire had already penetrated through the roof on one side of the single-family home.

“The home was located up a steep driveway and fire fighters pulled fire fighting lines about 300 ft to get to the home,” said Val Martin, Assistant Chief for Support Services at the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety.

Crews responding to the incident included: Engine 1 out of Wailuku, Engine 10 and Rescue 10 from Kahului and Engine 2 from Pāʻia.

The fire was brought under control at 4:10 p.m., and extinguished at 6 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.

Personnel with the Red Cross were assisting displaced residents at last report.
