Abandoned Vehicles Hauled Out of Waikapū Ditch

Over the past few days, multiple crews worked to remove several abandoned vehicles from the storm water drain ditch off East Waialae Road.

Travis Polido, the president of the Waikapū Community Association, alerted the county of the illegally dumped vehicle.

Polido, as well as other members of the community, were concerned of the “toxic waste from batteries, fuel, tires, refrigerants and other possibilities” flowing into the retention basin.

After the cars were removed, Polido expressed his gratitude to those who helped in the process.

“I personally was there and witnessed first hand Jenny, Allyson from Environmental Management, James, Milton from Maui Tow, Tony and his crew from T.J. Gomes. These individuals worked through the rain in a safe, timely and professional manner for a few hours as the vehicle’s/debris were loaded and hauled away,” Polido said in a press release.

County officials are reminding residents to keep the community safe and refrain from dumping vehicles.
