The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui has opened nominations for its prestigious Nihon Bunka Award.

The honor recognizes community members who are dedicated to perpetuating the Japanese arts and culture.

“If you know someone on Maui who has made an impact in the promotion of the Japanese culture, whether it’s in cuisine, fashion, martial arts, performing arts, business or special initiative projects, please nominate them for the Nihon Bunka award,” JCSM president Deron Furukawa said in a press release.

“It is important we recognize these individuals to inspire future generations to preserve Japanese traditions and values.”

Nominations are due by Dec. 20.

The recipient(s) for 2020 will be recognized at the organization’s annual Shinnen Enkai dinner on Jan. 25 at the Maui Beach Hotel.

For more information, call Furukawa at (808) 298-3352 or email jcsmhawaii@gmail.com.
